Midpen Media Board President Sue Purdy Pelosi and Executive Director Keri Stokstad attended the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) 2019 Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon July 10-12. The conference theme, New Paths, signaled to attending organizations that adjustments to their revenue streams and media offerings might be needed soon as the funding landscape and current media trends change.
Representatives from community media organizations across the U.S. networked and took part in panel discussions at the 3-day conference. Learning sessions were aimed at sharing best practices to strengthen community media access across the country. Keri Stokstad moderated the panel discussion, Poised to Prosper: Three Community Media Turnaround Stories. Other topics spanned sharing practical technical know-how, strategies to survive changing Federal and local policies, and deep dives into the craft and necessity of community media. The Hometown Awards ceremony was a highlight of the conference and acknowledged the best community access programming across the country.
