The reception, screening, and award ceremony honoring six Local Heroes who have made significant impacts within the community took place Saturday, September 28th at Midpen Media Center. Friends, family, and community members gathered in a show of support of the honorees, filling the studio audience to capacity.
Although this year’s Local Heroes are from diverse backgrounds, they all have community service in common. Many of the honorees work with underserved youth like immigrant children, girls, and those with serious illnesses. Another hero works to repair homes of low-income residents, and by extension, the children who live there are positively impacted by their work.
During the course of the event, the six nominees were introduced, and a portion of their documentary interviews were shared on the big screen. The heroes received certificates from Midpen Media and from Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian’s Office. Nominees had a chance to address the in-studio audience and greet supporters at a reception in their honor. Organizer, show producer, and host of the Local Hero event, Louise Pencavel says the celebration was a great success.
