Approval of Consent Calendar

A. Approval of Minutes. It is recommended the Board approve the minutes for the December 12, 2023, Annual Organizational and Regular Board Meeting.

B. Board of Education Committee Assignments for 2024. It is recommended the Board approve the committee assignments for 2024.

C. Certificated Personnel Items. It is recommended the Board approve the certificated personnel items as presented.

D. Classified Personnel Items. It is recommended the Board approve the classified personnel items as presented.

E. Job Description for Executive Director, Curriculum and Instruction. It is recommended the Board approve the job description for Executive Director, Curriculum and Instruction.

J. Approval of December Warrants and Purchase Orders. It is recommended the Board approve the September warrants and purchase orders as presented.

K. Approval of Strong Schools Bond Change Orders. It is recommended the Board approve the attached list of Strong Schools Bond change orders as listed.

L. Authorization to Bid and Purchase Gunn High School Press Box and Scoreboard. It is recommended the Board authorize staff to bid, submit to the Division of the State Architect (DSA), and purchase a Press Box and Scoreboard at the Gunn football facility.

M. Authorization to Bid Mechanical and Electrical Equipment for the Heating, Ventilating, and Cooling (HVAC) Projects at Multiple School Sites and Award Switchgear for J.L. Stanford Middle School. It is recommended the Board: 1) Authorize staff to bid the mechanical and electrical equipment for the HVAC projects at multiple elementary and middle school sites and 2) Authorize staff to purchase switchgear for the JLS HVAC project for $127,513.

N. Authorization to Award Contracts for Inspection Services for JL Stanford Middle School Administration and Library Project. It is recommended the Board award contracts to the following consultants: 1) Construction Inspection Services (CIS) Inspections Inc. will provide Inspector of Record (IOR) services, 2) Ninyo & Moore for materials testing and special inspection services, and 3) Cornerstone Earth Group for geotechnical inspection and observation services.

O. Authorization to Award Contract for Phase 3 Installation of Extron Integrated Audio-Visual Systems. It is recommended the Board authorize staff to: 1) Award contracts to EKC in the amounts of $29,843 and $118,593 for elementary and secondary school installations, respectively, and 2) Authorize the Superintendent or his designee to approve change orders not to exceed 10% of the contract, or $2,984 and $11,859.

P. Authorization to Issue Addendum 17 to HED Architects. It is recommended the Board approve Addendum 17 to HED Architects (HED) for design services for the Palo Alto High School Tower Administration project in the amount not to exceed $35,500.

Q. Authorization to Issue Addendum 18 to SVA Architects. It is recommended the Board approve Addendum 18 to SVA Architects for design services for the Fire Alarm project at JLS Middle School for $95,000.

R. Authorization to Purchase Playground Equipment and Bid Installation for the Fairmeadow Elementary School Playground Project. It is recommended the Board: 1) Utilize Sourcewell contracts with Miracle Playsystems to purchase accessible playground equipment, 2) Authorize the Superintendent or his designee to issue change orders, and 3) Authorize staff to bid the installation for the Measure Z playground project at Fairmeadow Elementary School.

S. Authorization to Purchase Playground Equipment and Bid Installation for the Nixon Elementary School Playground Project. It is recommended the Board: 1) Authorize utilizing a California Multiple Award Schedule (CMAS) contract with Park Planet to purchase accessible playground equipment for $367,753, 2) Authorize the Superintendent or his designee to issue change orders in an amount not to exceed $36,775, and 3) Authorize staff to bid the installation for the Measure Z playground project at Nixon Elementary School.

T. World Languages – Spanish, French, and German Textbook Adoptions. It is recommended the Board adopt Klett World Languages for use in the following courses: Spanish 1, 2, 3, and 4; Spanish Heritage; French 1, 2, 3, and 4; German 1, 2, 3; and Advanced Placement German.

U. 2022-23 School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs) for the 2023-24 Reporting Year. It is recommended the Board approve the submission of the attached 2022-23 SARCs for the 2023-24 reporting year to the California Department of Education (CDE).

 

 

Action Item

A. Approve Increase in Change Order Contingency for the Directional Boring Project at Palo Alto High School. It is recommended the Board approve an increase to the change order contingency of $31,909.31.

 

 

B. Authorization to Award Contract for the Pool Replacement at Fletcher Middle School. It is recommended the Board authorize staff to: 1) Award a contract to CWS Construction Group, Inc. for $4,665,000, and 2) Authorize the Superintendent or his designee to approve change orders not exceeding 10% of the contract, or $466,500.
