Are you interested in telling local stories and making local change? Do you dream of a career in journalism or sports broadcasting? Maybe you’re looking for the tools to archive important local history or be the first one to break a local story?
This one-day, 4-hour workshop will introduce you to live reporting, sports broadcasting, and community journalism. You will learn how to operate and produce on-the-go video with Midpen Media Center’s mobile production studio and broadcast truck. Through the lens of community journalism and local sports, and while confidently using high-tech news cameras, you’ll learn how to transform footage of a live event into a video segment worth sharing. Additionally, upon completion of this workshop, students are invited to attend local sports games and community events to put their new live broadcasting skills into practice.
The Live Reporting Workshop will be outdoors to allow for social distancing. The curriculum is designed for students between the ages of 11 and 18. All students who complete this workshop will be invited to join our Youth Sports Crew, a social group that travels to local schools to cover live sports games throughout the school year.
