Today is Women’s Equality Day, and we are celebrating more than just the incredible women who lead our organization. Today we remember and celebrate women leaders everywhere. This year’s Women’s Equality Day comes with the additional observation that it’s been 100 years since the 19th Amendment was ratified – all the more reason to rejoice, and all the more need to remember the work that still must be done for women’s equality in the field of television production and other media-making opportunities.
The work of women leaders holds a special place in our non-profit. Video production and television has a history of being a male-dominated field, and even today women continue to come up against obstacles and a lack of meaningful opportunities when seeking to create media and be received by an audience. Our team, led by more than 50% brilliant and talented women, works every day to dismantle those obstacles as we empower local women creators and maintain a work environment that encourages the women on our team and in our community to grow. From our creative leads to our Executive Director, the women of Midpen Media play an essential role in ensuring our organization is the innovative and dynamic creative resource that we are today.
Midpen Media holds a core belief that everyone should have equal access to opportunities for media-making and uninhibited communication. Hollywood still has a long way to go before it can truly say that women have equal opportunities for success both on screen and on set. Until then, we are doing everything we can to ensure that our studio is reflective of the future of women’s media-making that we hope to see: safe, welcoming, and free of gender-based obstacles.
Happy Women’s Equality Day!
