The Midpen Media Center, in partnership with support from the Palo Alto City Library and the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce is conducting a photo contest with the theme, “What I Love In the Silicon Valley.” The contest is open to people who live or work in Santa Clara County or San Mateo County. Submissions will be invited on the Midpen Media Center website from March 21 – May 17 followed by voting between five finalists. The finalists will be posted on the Midpen Media Center Facebook Page. There will be a judges’ winner and a popular vote winner in an Adult category and a Youth Category for middle and high school students. The entries – up to three per person – will be free.
Prizes will include framing of the photos and exhibition in two different venues over the summer. Additional prizes to be donated by Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce members will be announced in the coming weeks. The specific exhibition sites will also be announced soon.
“The Media Center has been a hub of video production activity for decades but we also celebrate community-based content and expression in a range of formats including audio podcasts and storytelling performances. We are excited to start sponsoring photo contests as we know there are many in the community who express themselves in that medium.” says Elliot Margolies, project coordinator. Margolies is joined by a volunteer committee of photographers including Joan Sperans of Atherton, Mary Ellen Koschub of Los Gatos, and Harlan Crowder of Sunnyvale.
“We will soon highlight the winners on our own website in addition to the places where those photos will be hung over the summer.” said Margolies. “In the near future, we want our website to include photo galleries from local photo clubs, school classrooms and historical societies, in addition to all the video links we present on our site.”
If you are a photographer, visit the Midpen Media Center website from March 18th onward to find the online entry form, rules, and updated prizes. All entries must come in digital form.
