TV Studio Upgrades to High Def!

It’s official!   You can now look forward to the following upgrades in the Media Center TV Studio:

3 Hitachi Z-HD6000-ST1 Studio Cameras
4th Hitachi  Studio Camera with a Jib!
Newtek Tricaster 8000 Production Switcher w/Multi-Camera Green Screen Capability
“Live Text” Graphics Station
Video Disk Recorder with Multitrack Audio
4 ISO Video Disk Recorders (capable of recording ProRes)
Soundcraft Si Performer 3 Digital Sound Mixer (with compressor on each bus)
70” Interactive “Smart Board” w/HD LED display
Wireless Headset for Floor Director
New Studio Floor

The HD conversion will commence on Monday, 12/8, and the SD studio will officially close on Sunday evening, 12/7, with a farewell soiree, so hold the date!!  Details about our commemorative event will follow shortly!

The studio will probably be closed for tapings until February 2015.  We are still working out the timeline for the conversion, trainings, and ramp-up to HD digital production.

We are hoping that all the studio upgrades will be in place by the second or third week in January, at which point we can begin training on the new gear.  Producers will also have to re-input graphics templates, and upgrade video components to HD, such as show intros.

As for studio show reservations for the first half of 2015, Dave will be soliciting requests in early December 2014 for mid-February through June 2015, but these will be tentative holds and subject to cancellation, until we have all the kinks worked out of the new system–especially during February and March (if we’re up and running before mid-February, we’ll let you know).

Although this may all sound rather daunting, it’s also very exciting, as the new studio will open up so many production opportunities—not to mention raising production values by orders of magnitude!!  We’ll be sure to keep you updated as often as possible as we navigate the transition to all digital HD.
