Make your own movie!

Grades: 6 – 12

Do you think Hollywood is calling your name? Do you dream of lights, camera, action? This camp is for you! It’s a week-long, 25-hour, intensive video workshop that provides you with the skills and knowledge to tell a story through video. You will learn techniques to shoot and edit digital video. You will develop and pitch ideas, write scripts, and work as a production team to shoot and edit short films. By the end of this class, you’ll have worked as part of a group to produce two or three videos. The class includes access to and basic instruction on all necessary equipment.

Digital Photography and Editing

Learn how to take professional photos!

Grades: 6 – 10

Discover the wonderful world of digital still photography and learn to transform ordinary photos into images you will be proud to show. You’ll learn the most important camera features, how deal with a variety of lighting situations, compositional techniques, and editing photos using Adobe Lightroom®.

We’ll have two off-site photo shoots, and your best photos will be featured in our exhibit space.

You can bring your own camera or phone or other device; the Media Center can also supply cameras.

TV Studio Production

How to Become a TV Star In One Week

Grades: 6-12

You’ll learn all the skills they need to produce, direct, and star in your own TV shows in our professional studio from concept to completed show. You’ll design sets, run cameras, operate sound, create graphics, and star, bringing your big ideas to the small screen! Previous classes have produced game shows, sit-coms, talent shows, and discussions about local youth-related issues.

Students are encouraged to come back and participate throughout the school year on ongoing productions.

Sports Broadcasting

Live Coverage of Sporting Events

Grades: 6 -12

Learn all about live sports broadcasting in a unique, hands-on training experience. In our mobile TV production truck, you’ll learn every crew position: director, camera operator, graphics engineer, audio engineer, and play-by-play commentators. You’ll film a live local sporting event, which will be shown on local TV!

Graduates of this camp can join our Sports Broadcasting Team, to cover local school sporting events for local TV and the web during the school year. Crew members receive Community Service hours, a free meal each game, and the chance to work with industry professionals. To learn more about our team, contact Sara Bennett:

Make Your Own Podcast!

Grades: 6 – 12

This fast-paced and high energy podcasting camp takes you through the entire process of creating a podcast of your own design. With the help of an experienced podcasting instructor and high-quality audio recording equipment, you’ll write, record, edit, and release the podcasts you’ve always wanted to make. By the end of this course, you’ll have both a finished product and the knowledge you need to make more.

All Camps are held at the Media Center: 900 San Antonio Road, Palo Alto. Students should pack a lunch and a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt. Sports Campers should also bring a hat, sunglasses, water bottle, and sunscreen.

Morning snacks will be provided.

Summer Camp Cancellation & Refund Policy

No refund will be given for cancellations less than two weeks prior to the camp session’s start date. Cancellations between 2 and 4 weeks prior to the camp session’s start date will result in a 50% refund. Cancellations made earlier than 4 weeks prior to the camp’s start date will result in an 85% refund.

  • The Media Center reserves the right to cancel a session if enrollment is insufficient. In such an instance, fees paid will be refunded in full.
